The University Council, on recommendation of the Commission on Graduate Studies and Policies and the Commission on Undergraduate Studies and Policies, approved a resolution concerning the name change of the College of Forestry and Wildlife Resources to the College of Natural Resources.
Following is the text of the resolution as adopted by University Council.
Whereas, many Colleges of Forestry in the United States have changed their name to natural resources to better reflect their mission with a more encompassing view of the Earth's natural environment, and
Whereas, the National Association of State University and Land Grant Colleges (NASULGC) structure includes a Commission on Food, Environment and Renewable Resources which parallels our College's programs, and
Whereas, the College of Forestry and Wildlife Resources represents varied disciplines and degrees beyond those represented by the current name of the college, and
Whereas, the name of College of Forestry and Wildlife Resources does not fully reflect the breadth of our programs nor the full scope of our mission, and
Whereas, the faculty and other college constituents have considered recommendations regarding the college name and the name change does not affect department names nor degree titles,
Therefore, Be It Resolved that the College of Forestry and Wildlife Resources be authorized to change the college name to the College of Natural Resources,
And, Be It Further Resolved that this change be effective First Summer 1999 upon approval of the Board of Visitors.
