The University Council, on recommendation of the Commission on Undergraduate Studies and Policies, unanimously approved a resolution altering the ten-minute break between classes scheduled Monday, Wednesday and Friday to fifteen minutes for classes scheduled prior to 5:30 p.m.
Following is the text of the resolution as adopted by University Council.
WHEREAS, the university has grown significantly over the years in both number of students and the distance between classroom building on opposite corners of the campus, and,
WHEREAS, student must frequently schedule classes in consecutive scheduling periods, and,
WHEREAS, walking distances between several major classroom building (e.g., McBryde and Litton Reaves) require more than ten minutes travel time, and,
WHEREAS, congestion in classroom building stairs and halls further interferes with travel timeliness between consecutive classes, and,
WHEREAS, late class arrivals and early departures interfere with the learning effectiveness of all students in the course,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the ten-minute break between classes scheduled Monday, Wednesday and Friday should be changed to fifteen minutes for classes scheduled prior to 5:30 p.m."
AND, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this change in class scheduling shall be effective for the Fall Semester 1998.
