The University Council, on recommendation of the Commission on Undergraduate Studies and Policies, unanimously approved a resolution concerning the university's policy and procedures for the establishment of new schools at Virginia Tech.
Following is the text of the resolution as adopted by University Council.
WHEREAS, consideration of proposals to establish the School of the Arts and the School for Public and International Affairs followed a process informed by practices at other institutions but not formally codified; and,
WHEREAS, all parties will benefit from making more explicit the criteria and process for evaluating such proposals; and,
WHEREAS, the Board of Visitors has requested that we develop criteria for both establishment of new "schools" at Virginia Tech and their subsequent evaluation, and to define a process for approval,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the appended Policy and Procedures for Establishment of New Schools at Virginia Tech be adopted upon approval by the Board of Visitors.
