SUBJECT: Transition to New Academic Eligibility Policy

The University Council, on recommendation of the Commission on Undergraduate Studies and policies, unanimously approved a resolution concerning the effective date of the revised eligibility policy (see Policy Memorandum 167).

Following is the text of the resolution as adopted by University Council.

WHEREAS, the Revised Academic Eligibility Policy will go into effect for all new students beginning Summer 1997, and

WHEREAS, currently enrolled students need to continue under current eligibility policy for a reasonable length of time, and

WHEREAS, the minimum QCA requirements of the current policy match those of the new policy when a student has attempted 70 credits, and

WHEREAS, it is reasonable to expect that any other student enrolled prior to Summer 1997 to have reached the 70 attempted credit by May of 2000 and thus be subject to the same minimum QCA eligibility requirements as those covered by the new policy, and

WHEREAS, any unusual cases which do not fit the above expectations and assumptions can be resolved on a case-by-case basis through established appeals processes and through the Obsolete Credit Rule,

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Revised Academic Eligibility Policy become effective for all undergraduate students enrolled in the University on or after May 15, 2000.
