Governance Representation During Merger Period of Colleges of Human Resources and Education

The University Council, on recommendation of the Deans of Human Resources and Education, unanimously approved a resolution concerning representation during the merger period of the colleges.

Following is the text of the resolution as adopted by University Council.

WHEREAS, the Colleges of Human Resources and Education will merge July 1, 1996, with an interim period extending to July 1, 1998 during which details of the merger will be completed; and

WHEREAS, to facilitate the merger, the faculty and staff associations of the two colleges will continue as separate but equal organizations for the 1996-97 academic year; and

WHEREAS, the Colleges of Education and Human Resources currently have representatives on University governance bodies serving terms of length varying from one remaining year up to three remaining years; and

WHEREAS, the new College of Human Resources and Education' s representation on University governance bodies during the transition period should be structured in a way that facilitates the merger in every possible way;

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that incumbent representatives and representatives about to be appointed for a term beginning July 1, 1996 from the Colleges of Human Resources and Education be allowed to complete their terms even if it results in duplicate representation for a short time. Be it further resolved that when the term expires of one of the representatives from the new college, the term will not be filled until the term of the second representative has also expired.
