Change in Student Membership of University Council

Policy Memorandum No. 16

Recommended by the Commission on Student Affairs: April 16, 1979
Approved by University Council: June 4, 1979
Approved by the President: June 4, 1979
Effective: September 1979

The University Council has approved transferring the non-voting seat on University Council from Vice President of Student Government Association to the President of the Residence Hall Federation.

This change in Council membership was initiated by the Residence Hall Federation to bring about improved representation of on-campus students in the University's governance and to establish the Residence Hall Federation as an important channel of communications between the Council and on-campus students. The Federation pointed out that the two Student Government Association officers on the University Council duplicate representation for the students, and that one representative from the SGA and one from the RHF would provide Council and the students with a broader base of information without increasing the size of Council. The change was endorsed by the Student Government Association.

This change will take place with the advent of the 1979-80 academic year and will be incorporated with other possible changes in University Council membership, relating to the membership of the Vice President for Development and University Relations, the Dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine, the Secretary of University Council, and faculty representation of the College of Veterinary Medicine.
