Revision of Faculty Handbook on Special Faculty Appointments

Policy Memorandum No. 13

Recommended by the Commission on Faculty Affairs: March 13, 1979
Approved by University Council: May 7, 1979
Approved by the President: May 7, 1979
Effective: Immediately

This policy establishes a new position (for internal use only) entitled Senior Research Associate and allows persons in non-instructional units of the University to hold the rank of Adjunct Professor in a department or division. As a result of this change, the section of the FACULTY HANDBOOK entitled "Special Faculty Appointments" (Pages 20 and 21 of the current FACULTY HANDBOOK, dated June 1977) will be revised to read as follows:

Appointments at these ranks should undergo the same departmental, divisional, or collegiate approval process as for regular faculty appointments. If the appointment is for less than a year a full search may not be necessary, but if a search was not conducted the appointee may not assume a regular appointment thereafter without benefit of a search.
