In May, 1988, the University Council, on recommendation of the Commission on Student Affairs, took action to abolish the Student Constitutional Affairs Board, a subcommittee of the Commission on Student Affairs, and replace it with a registration procedure for student organizations. On December 5, 1988, University Council, again acting on recommendation of the Commission on Student Affairs, took action to modify the policy with regard to approval requirements for registration of student organizations.

Following is the text of the resolution as adopted by the University Council:

WHEREAS students often desire to affiliate and to form all types of formal and informal organizations, and

WHEREAS student organizational activities can enhance student life and have positive educational value, and

WHEREAS student organizations need to use University facilities for meetings and to have various kinds of University support, and

WHEREAS registration of student groups should be expedited so that students may enjoy the benefits of affiliation, be it therefore

RESOLVED that registration of student organizations be completed in the Office of Student Organizations, and that group registrations be reported to the Commission on Student Affairs without further requirements for approval.
