Common-Times Examination Policy

Policy Memorandum No. 5d

Recommended by the Commission on Undergraduate Studies, February 27, 1978
Approved by University Council: May 15, 1978
Approved by the President: May 15, 1978
Effective: Immediately

The University Council on May 15 approved a recommendation of the Commission on Undergraduate Studies to clarify the Common-Time Examination Policy. According to this policy,

when a common-time examination is scheduled for a course, examinations for all sections of that course must be held at that common time, whether or not a common examination is used.

Such courses should be designated by the notation "CTE" in the Time Table of Classes. In addition, a blank form for "Examination Schedule" should be provided in the Time Tables of Classes, and the deadline dates for rescheduling examinations should be announced in appropriate University publications (Collegiate Times, Daily Bulletin).

This clarification is designed to support the original intent of the policy to fix a common-time, when requested by a department, in order that a student may plan a course schedule to accommodate a workable examination schedule.
