Policy Memorandum No. 5b

(Long title) Graduate students must maintain a 3.0 QCA on all course work taken at Virginia Tech and all courses included on the Program of Study

Recommended by Commission on Graduate Studies and Research, February 28, 1978
Approved by University Council: April 3, 1978
Approved by President: May 15, 1978
Effective: First Summer Term, 1978, for all new entering graduate students

The University Council on April 3, 1978, approved a revision in policy concerning the academic eligibility of graduate students as recommended by the Commission on Graduate Studies and Research. This policy requires that:

A graduate student must have and maintain a 3.0 QCA on all courses on the program of study. In addition, a student must have a 3.0 QCA on all work taken while in graduate school at VPI&SU; irrespective of whether or not the courses are listed on the student's program of study, as long as they appear on the official transcript. The calculated minimum 3.0 QCA on courses on the program of study and on all work taken while in graduate school will be used in determining academic standing, continued eligibility for financial assistance and the satisfactory completion of degree requirements.

In part, this statement is a codification of existing policy since graduate students are required to maintain a minimum 3.0 QCA on all work taken to be eligible for financial assistance.
